A recently-filed patent has revealed Sony’s plans for a potential redesign of the PlayStation Move controller. In a patent application filed on January 3rd, Sony shows off a slightly redesigned controller with a bigger ball and new handle.
The controller appears to have swappable buttons in addition to
connections at the bottom of the handle that allow two controllers to be
attached. Multiple images show off the potential applications of these
features, including a long combined Move controller being used as a
sword and multiple Move controllers used to track leg and hand movements
simultaneously.
This is the second new Move patent we’ve seen from Sony recently, following a combined DualShock and Move controller that leaked out in November.
It’s worth keeping in mind that Sony files hundreds of patents and
there’s no indication that these redesigned Move controllers will ever
see the light of day. Still, we’ve reached out to Sony about the patents
and will update with any comment we receive.
